What defines you?

DEFINED BY CHRISTOften times we allow everything in the world but Christ define who we are.

We allow our scars to define us; our pasts to define us; our background to define us; our self-esteem to define us; our bank account, home, and status to define us; our failures to define us; our self-image to define us; people’s opinion of us to define us, and we forget that none of these things have any say in determining our worth in this world.

All of these things may describe who we are and where we came from.

They may describe our reputation or our situation.

They may describe how we look and what status we have.

But no matter how important any of these things are in our life it is only Christ’s sacrifice on the cross that determines our immeasurable worth and defines who we are.

Here is a beautiful excerpt I found on the fulltime girls’ facebook page about our identity in Christ. I’m not sure if this is the original source or not but I could not help but share this here since it echoes so perfectly what I have tried to say repeatedly in my own way and with my own words on this blog.

May it bless you the way it blessed me and remind you to look to Christ to define you, not anything else.

In a world setting a false beauty standard, I will believe that we are not defined by our face or body.

We are defined by Jesus Christ.

In a world obsessing over relationship statuses, I will believe we are not defined by a significant other.

We are defined by Jesus Christ.

In a world constantly pushing sex and sexual preferences, I will believe that we are not defined by sex or our virginity or lack thereof.

We are defined by Jesus Christ.

In a world valuing the material over the spiritual, I will believe we are not defined by things we can afford.

We are defined by Jesus Christ.

In a world preaching bigger is better, I will believe that we are not defined by our popularity or the size of our ministry.

We are defined by Jesus Christ.

In a world telling me to love myself, I will believe we are not defined by how we feel about “me” today.

We are defined by Jesus Christ.

In world that tells me I’m not enough. I will choose to believe the Bible. I will choose to listen to the voice of my Savior whispering everyday “It is finished…… and you are whole.”

Today, remember that you were bought with a high price. Choose to find your worth daily not in a status, in a job, in a career, or in a person. Find it in Christ alone. Have a wonderful weekend and be blessed!  Anna… ♥

  3. Wow sis this is great! My husband text me an encouraging message yesterday about identity in Christ and I began reading through scriptures about it. Our identity is not found in anything else but Christ. 🙂
This is such an awesome post!

    • Amen! It’s so great that you have a husband who encourages you in finding your identity in Christ! I think it’s something that we have to keep on growing deeper in daily as the world tries to entice and draw us away from who God created us to be. Have a blessed day Deborah!
